Any student, any school, any grade can join. Pick a real challenge at the January 8 kickoff, build through January 23, and show your work at the fair.

Register as a Student

Who can join

The Student track is open to any student, at any school, at any grade. Your age at registration decides how you register, not whether you can join.

  • 18 or older

    You register yourself and give consent in the form. You are registered as soon as you submit it.

  • 13 to 17

    You register yourself and give us a parent or guardian's name and email. You are registered as soon as you submit the form; your parent or guardian signs a consent packet afterward.

  • 12 or younger

    Online registration is not open yet for builders this age. Have a parent or guardian email registration@hatchathon.tech and we will help register you.

Solo or with a team

  • Build solo

    Most builders register solo. Solo entries compete on the same footing as teams, and you still pick a challenge and a table at the fair.

  • Build with a team

    Already have people to build with? Mark that you want to start a team when you register. Prefer to meet people first? Teammates are found at the January 8 kickoff.

Signing consent

If you are 13 to 17, you register yourself, the same as anyone else. Once you submit the form, we automatically email your parent or guardian a consent packet covering the event terms, a photo and video release, and medical authorization. (Builders under 13 do not register through this form; see the referral above.)

Your parent or guardian can also download the consent packet now, get it signed, and return it to registration@hatchathon.tech or in person at the January 8 kickoff.

Before you register

What does it cost?
Nothing. Registering, the kickoff, and the fair are all free.
Which school can I be from?
Any school, any grade. The Student track has no restriction on where you attend school.
How are teams matched?
Most builders register solo. If you would like teammates, the January 8 kickoff is where people find each other. You can also mark that you want to start a team when you register.
What if I'm 13 to 17?
You register yourself, the same as anyone else. We automatically email your parent or guardian a consent packet afterward. They can also download the consent packet now, get it signed, and return it to registration@hatchathon.tech or in person at the January 8 kickoff.
What if I'm 12 or younger?
Online registration is not open yet for builders this age. Have a parent or guardian email registration@hatchathon.tech and we will help register you.
Do I need experience?
No. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are enough.
